About the Plant
Catnip is a hardy perennial herb in the mint family known for its fragrant leaves and its irresistible effect on cats. This fast-growing plant produces soft gray-green foliage and delicate white flowers that attract pollinators like bees and butterflies. Easy to grow and extremely resilient, catnip thrives in garden beds, containers, and herb gardens.
Beyond its popularity with cats, catnip has a long history as a calming herbal tea for humans and is valued for its gentle minty aroma.
How to Grow (Simple Steps)
Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost or direct sow outdoors after frost danger passes.
Sow seeds lightly on the soil surface and cover with a thin layer of soil.
Keep soil lightly moist during germination (7–14 days).
Space plants 12–18 inches apart.
Harvest leaves anytime once plants are well established.

Mildly minty, slightly earthy, and herbal.
Garden & Kitchen Inspiration
Catnip is best known as a natural enrichment plant for cats. The leaves can be dried and used for homemade cat toys, cat teas, or sprinkled on scratching posts.
For people, catnip can also be brewed into a calming herbal tea traditionally used to support relaxation and digestion.
