About the Plant

Jack O’ Lantern Pumpkin is the classic pumpkin variety known for its bright orange color, round shape, and sturdy rind—perfect for carving and fall decorations. Easy to grow and highly productive, this traditional pumpkin is a favorite for families, gardeners, and seasonal celebrations. The flesh can also be used for cooking, making it both decorative and functional.

How to Grow (Simple Steps)

  • Start seeds indoors 2–3 weeks before the last frost or direct sow after frost.

  • Sow seeds 1 inch deep in warm, well-draining soil.

  • Ideal soil temperature for germination: 70–90°F.

  • Transplant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed.

  • Provide plenty of space for vines and water consistently.

  • Harvest when pumpkins are fully orange and the rind is hard.

Peruvian Kitchen Inspiration

While Jack O’ Lantern pumpkins are best known for carving, the flesh can be used in soups, purées, and baked goods inspired by comforting squash dishes common throughout the Andes.
